Hi there, and welcome to The Take it Easy Crew - my musings on the cannabis industry, California, and building Halara.

If you missed past emails, I recommend checking out the Take it Easy Crew page where you can see the past emails I sent.

Hall of Flowers Santa Rosa

Hey crew,

What. A. Week.

Hall of Flowers just wrapped in Santa Rosa. This is our backyard and we could literally throw a rock from our extraction lab and hit the venue. And wow, it was electric.

From the public day to the flood of shop buyers, the turnout blew me away. Thank you to everyone who came through. This one felt huge even though the show itself was smaller (only one building instead of three). Our booth stayed packed, thanks to being right next to our partners Fig Farms, Sense and UpNorth. The goodie bags moved fast, and if you snagged one with our new rosin/all-in-one drops, you know what I’m talking about.

The highlight? Our “yearbook wall.” We printed a massive banner with every single one of the 240 shops carrying Halara across California. Folks from our partner stores came up and autographed it. It turned into this living piece of art.

We’re hanging it in the factory to remind ourselves of how far we’ve come.

And yes you read that right, the goal was 250 stores by end of year… but we’re about to break that next month (fingers crossed).

Old friends popping by

Nick also pulled off something he’s been wanting to for years: collector cards. Think Pokémon, but Halara strains. This show was the first sneak peek, with only 300 cards printed per strain. If you walked away with a Cadillac Lemonade or Banana Mochi Funk card, congrats! You’ve got one of the first limited editions. I loved seeing people’s faces light up seeing them, and we’ll rolling them out in upcoming limited releases.

A sneak peak

And because we can’t help ourselves, we ran a dab bar at the booth. On each of our PS1 bubblers we had the different diamond sauce strains that won awards this summer. The security dude eventually shut me down when they said our booth looked like a chimney but it was fun while it lasted.

Biggest takeaway: smaller show, bigger impact. Nonstop talking (I lost my voice), nonstop energy, and nonstop love for what we’re building.

See you in two weeks,

— Malcolm

The Review Corner

This one was submitted 2 weeks ago from one our brand ambassadors out in the field who met an electrician “Jack” on his lunch break coming into the dispensary. If you see any of our team say hi!

[Jack] said “[He] grabbed a Stiiizy once, said it “ain’t the same,” then came back to Halara. Halara is the only thing that doesn’t clog when I’m on the scaffold.”

This line will forever live rent free in my head.

My strain: Fire OG

So I’ll admit, this one’s a little unfair. It hasn’t even hit the market yet.

But our new strain, Fire OG, our Limited Charity Release, is unreal. We previewed it at the Hall of Flowers booth on the triple-bong setup (now you know why security got mad at me).

Flavor notes: think lemon zest and pine needles roasted over a campfire.

And here’s the part I’m most excited about: with every cartridge sold, we’re planting a tree. We’ve been partnering with One Tree Planted for three, going on four years now to help revitalize our states forests after the fires.

This drop just came off the line, and we kicked it off the right way: by planting the very first tree. You can check out the link below to see it for yourself.

Dope Things I’m reading

Some of my favorite things since the last newsletter (note: I don’t get paid to recommend anything here):

My Weekly Bops 🎵

This one is bittersweet for me. Shaboozey came and did a free concert in SF this weekend for the city… but he only played 4 songs. Two of which were “A Bar Song”. Please someone get this guy more hits so he can sing longer:

  1. Paradise City - for driving to work. Roll the windows down and sing.

  2. Bar Song (Shaboozey) - I don’t care what you say, no one can hate this song. It’s too fun.

That’s all for this week — thanks for reading!

If you enjoyed it, share with a friend! I get a little spark of joy every time I see our crew grow. If you have other ideas for this newsletter lmk! Or check out our website for more info.
