Hi there, and welcome to The Dealers Diary - my musings on the cannabis industry, California, and building Halara.
If you missed past emails, I recommend checking out the Dealers page where you can see the past emails I sent.
New Look, Who This?
Hey crew,
Some quick updates:
We’re back! I don’t know about y’all, but I am still stuffed from the weekend. We went back to Minnesota, where I’m from, to visit family and had a blast catching up with everyone.
It was the first snowy Thanksgiving in Minnesota in a few years and I was so pumped. I’ve missed being surrounded by snow after getting used to the perfect-weather bubble that is San Francisco.
At one point I was this close to asking a dad and his kid if I could borrow their sled for a single run, but my girlfriend stepped in and vetoed it. So I flew back to 60°F, sunny California winter: happy, full, and sadly sledless.
On the New York front, I’ve got good news. Last week, the testing lab finally stopped holding our products hostage and we got the greenlight to list our products for wholesale to New York shops!!
Dealers: tell your local shop to find us on the Nabis wholesale marketplace and get Halara on the menu.

Now, last week I promised y’all a sneak peek at our upcoming packaging redesign, and I’m keeping that promise.
This hasn’t been shown to anyone outside of our supply chain yet, so keep it on the down-low. iykyk.
These won’t hit shelves until around mid-to-late January, and they’ll roll out simultaneously across all three states we’ll be in at that point.
I’m assuming y’all are familiar with our current packaging (see below). This has been our workhorse look for the last four years. It’s great and it’s what people know us by.

But here’s the problem we kept running into: the only way new customers found us was through word of mouth from store staff or friends. I bet this is the same for all of you.
Nothing about the box really said “pick me” or clearly told you what was inside when you were standing in front of the shelf.
I’ve had so many buyer friends call me and say, “Malcolm, you guys make fire carts, but no one knows because your box just says yoga.”
Or I’d be talking with customers, show them the color of our oil, how clean it is, or our All-In-One device, and they’d say: “Wait, if I knew it looked like that I would’ve bought it!”
All this is to say: packaging and how you show up for customers in-store is everything.
So over the last few months, this has been our #1 priority. My brain still hurts from the amount of Canva and Adobe time we poured into this project.

Here are three of our main line up!
The All-In-Ones are graduating out of the little boxes and into hanging bags, so they’ll finally get the attention they deserve on the wall instead of hiding on a shelf. Way easier to spot, way easier for a budtender to point at and say, “That one.”
Meanwhile, our THC cartridge box is getting a full glow-up and will look like this:

I can’t express how excited I am for these to hit shelves. I can feel it in my gut
Cleaner front, clearer info, and a design that actually tells you what’s inside at a glance. Strain, vibe, and what makes our oil different. The goal: when someone walks past the case, they immediately know, “Oh, that’s Halara, and that’s what it does for me.”
These packages just pop.
They finally show off what our oil actually is and why it hits the way it does. No more “Wait, what is this?” moments at the case.
I’m show you the Resin one next, because we’ve got a big surprise dropping in January for everyone who loves our resin on-the-go.
Keep an eye out around Christmas. I’ll spill the beans then.
Onwards and upwards,
-Malcolm
P.S. What’s up with the accent mark?
Now maybe some of you caught it already but we added an accent mark to Halára to help folks pronounce it. We played around with it internally and it just stuck. To be honest I just really liked the look of it.
The Review Corner
This review came in last week for Green Wednesday and is pretty important right now when talking about packaging.

Fear not fellow Dealer! We are probably a little too anal that our new packaging will be as easy to open as before.
Think you’ve got a better review? Reply with your submission on our Reddit feed! Nick will critique 😂

Dope things I’m reading
Some of my favorite things since the last newsletter (note: I don’t get paid to recommend anything here):
Virginia market may open soon! The state of Virginia just unveiled their new regulations for the upcoming legalization and I’m tentatively impressed with the low excise tax. CA you could take a hint. Here’s the article
That’s all for this week — thanks for reading!
If you enjoyed it, share with a friend! I get a little spark of joy every time I see our crew grow. If you have other ideas for this newsletter lmk! Or check out our website for more info.
